About Advice & Counsel
Good legal guidance should be easier to reach.
Advice & Counsel is a proposed New Jersey family-law practice built around a straightforward idea: people deserve access to an experienced lawyer’s thinking, even when full-service representation is not the right fit.
The practice
Individualized help, without the overhead.
Family-law questions rarely arrive in neat categories. Maybe you received a proposed order, need to prepare for mediation, or want to understand what custody or support could mean for your family. You may not need—or be ready for—full-service representation. You still deserve an attorney who will listen, explain the landscape, and help you decide what comes next.
The virtual-first model keeps fixed overhead low and makes statewide service possible. Appointments happen by scheduled telephone call or secure videoconference, so the conversation can stay focused on your situation.
The result is a more accessible way to work with an experienced New Jersey family lawyer: a clear scope, one flat fee, and advice that respects the life behind the legal issue.

Clear counsel for consequential moments in New Jersey family law.
Danielle Joseph-Key, Esq.
Founder & Managing Attorney, Advice & Counsel
Danielle Joseph-Key, Esq. is a New Jersey attorney with more than 25 years of legal experience and a commitment to helping individuals and families understand their rights, evaluate their options, and make informed decisions during some of life's most difficult transitions.
Licensed to practice law since 2001, Ms. Joseph-Key has extensive experience in New Jersey family law, including divorce, child custody, parenting time, child support, relocation, domestic violence, post-judgment litigation, motion practice, settlement negotiations, and related Family Part proceedings. Her legal background also includes criminal and municipal court matters, and she has served as a municipal prosecutor.
Throughout her career, Ms. Joseph-Key has represented clients facing complex and highly personal legal disputes. That experience has shown her that many people need the knowledge and guidance of an attorney but do not necessarily need—or cannot afford—to retain an attorney to handle every aspect of their case.
She founded Advice & Counsel to help bridge that gap.
Advice & Counsel provides limited-scope family-law services to individuals who want professional legal guidance while maintaining control of their own cases. Through telephone and secure videoconference consultations, Ms. Joseph-Key helps clients understand New Jersey family law, evaluate possible strategies, prepare for court proceedings and mediation, and review motions, certifications, settlement agreements, proposed orders, and other legal documents.
Her approach is straightforward: clients should understand not only what the law says, but what it may mean for their particular circumstances and what practical options are available to them.
For self-represented litigants, navigating the court system can be overwhelming. Court forms can tell a person what document to file, but they cannot provide individualized legal advice, evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a position, or develop a strategy for presenting a case. Advice & Counsel was created to provide access to that missing piece without automatically requiring a traditional full-service retainer.
Ms. Joseph-Key brings to every consultation the perspective gained from more than two decades of legal practice, including extensive experience advocating for parents, spouses, and families in New Jersey courts. She believes effective legal counsel should be practical, understandable, candid, and focused on helping clients make informed decisions.
Through Advice & Counsel, her goal is simple:
Guidance you need.
Clarity you deserve.
Solutions that work for you.
